It’s interesting to consider that so much of comedy surrounds the imagery and circumstance of falling down. A man slipping and falling on a banana peel is the quintessential depiction of physical comedy. Why do we laugh when others fall down? Perhaps we realize the important role that mistakes play in the process of growth and discovery. In contrast to our culture’s almost pathological desire to avoid any type of failure, we may find it delightful to reconnect to the power of error, accident and risk.
