Today’s practice is to revisit something that once made a powerful impression on you — a positive influence that inspired you, moved you, or sparked you into action. It could be a book, movie, video, quote, photo, or a piece of art. It’s normal to be deeply affected by things we see, read, or hear, yet to intentionally seek out and repeat exposure to the same piece of art, the same communication, story, teaching, or example becomes an act of rule breaking the more frequently we explore it. To remain casually acquainted with things is normal. To re-experience the same thing over and over to get closer to the core of its value is often considered “cultish” behavior. We’re afraid of individuals that go too deep with something they’re passionate about. We want fulfillment, yet even when we find it our conditioning prompts us to pursue the next distraction. We are both expressing and discovering ourselves more uniquely when we repeat exposure to the things that awaken us at heart. The repetition reflects something about who we authentically are, what we long for, and a way we’re wishing to grow. The more we dare depart from the norm the more we feed an intentional and authentic direction for ourselves.
