Today’s practice is to intentionally leave a few props behind as you transition from one place to another. Do you really need three wardrobe options by your side or could you make it through some potential changes in weather without having the perfect layering in your bag? How likely is it that you’ll starve today if you don’t have enough lunch, snacks, treats or beverages at hand? If you left your watch on the dresser today, how bad would it be to have to depend on asking others for the time? Whatever you like to prepare in advance — or pick up to take with you before you walk out the door — have a look at what you’re carrying and resolve to leave one thing behind. It might just be an attitude you can do without or an expectation of how things are going to go where you’re headed. Whatever you are carrying, leave one extra thing behind at the moments of departure and see if you can survive. It may seem like a mistake to go unprepared into the world, but that very lack of preparation is sometimes a doorway to discovering new ways of doing things, meeting new people, and innovating new approaches.
