Today’s practice is to let another person who you are interacting with bring the conversation to a close. Your job is to be so engaged, interested in them or the topic at hand, or willing to hold forth about yourself that the other person is forced to end the exchange. One facet of the rule Avoid Mistakes is to carefully gauge our expression so that we never feel rejected because somebody else needs to move on. Take the risk today of bringing your energy and enthusiasm to a conversation without any thought of monitoring where it ought to end in order to keep yourself emotionally secure. Just keep going until the other person says they have to go. In person is best. Phone is acceptable. Email doesn’t count. If you get lucky the other person you pick will also be a subscriber to these daily practices. You’ll have a friend for life.
